After over ten years of experience in the engineering industry, Rui has now dedicated himself to the residential home inspection field. While working with engineering companies, he participated in construction compliance checks of large engineering projects. This experiences not only gave him an understanding of structure, electricity, plumbing, insulation and ventilation, but also developed his attention to detail and responsibility into his personality.

“Home inspectors take on the job of finding problems, projecting what may be the future of the building, and explaining our findings so the buyer can understand whether the problem is serious or not. The way we present a problem can sometimes make or break the sale. One of the most important part of my job is to communicate the problem well, so the buyer can understand the gravity of it.”

“Real estate is not just about bricks and mortar. People need to know if they’ll have adequate electricity for today’s standards or if the building has a leaky basement,” Gerry says. Gerry encourages homebuyers to follow him around and ask as many questions as they can during the inspection. “I’m happy to help buyers understand the basics of maintaining their new home.”

Andrew White-Jenkins is a thorough and meticulous guy. He’s both a people-person and someone who likes to look into the nooks and crannies to see where something might need attention. “At home I fix the little things; that matters to me.” During a home inspection, Andrew looks at the big systems, but is also someone who notices the details. “I have a strong sense of feeling responsible for making sure all the facts are on the table so people can be thoroughly informed.”

“Inspection is all about the details and what lies in between the cracks,” Luis says. During a recent condo inspection, he found rust on the exterior metal stairs. “Looking more closely, you could see the perforation on the column supporting the stairs, the metal was cracked.” Although he could have told the client, ‘need to rustproof the stairs’ he knew it was equally if not more important to tell them ” the structure supporting the stairs has a weakened, the column needs to be repaired”

Michael Kallaur got his start in the housing market negotiating prices on windows and doors for homes in Croatia with a Team Canada diplomatic mission. He had always thought he would become a diplomat–but instead, through his work, he developed a passion for home systems and construction.

With a smile and a sense of humour, Yohann is the right guy to carefully explain the facts in plain language to ensure his clients are able to make informed decisions. He has always been good at putting people at ease. He’s also a bit of a gadget geek, he admits “I love the right tool to get the job done.”

The idea of becoming an inspector emerged from when he attended inspections as a real estate broker, he often found himself thinking: "You know how to do that. You've seen it all before, the logic, the knowledge ... and you're asking the same questions as the inspector!"

Certified Professional Inspector People ask me: What is the objective of the home inspection? My answer is: I feel the home inspection profession is akin to the medical profession. The physician identifies the patient’s disease and proposes a treatment to get them back to health while the home inspector identifies the defects of a home and makes recommendations to get them in proper condition.
